In some cases, such as Type 15, a small bedroom was converted into a bathroom; the scullery was enlarged into a full-width kitchen and the houses were transformed. There was some hesitation about how to convert the larger Type 12 houses as the Council needed to retain the full number of bedrooms for its larger families. It was thought that a complete new bathroom would have to be built on to the back of the houses, an expensive and inconvenient solution. Eventually the large back bedrooms were divided into a bathroom and a narrow bedroom. At last the houses had bathrooms and were as they should have been built originally.
